Hey everyone! Here is our verse for today:
James 1:21-22
"Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, not merely hearers who delude themselves."
This is an awesome verse! It is telling us at the beginning to "put aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness". Which would be any kind of sin. It also says to "receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls". That means that we are to listen to what the Bible says, because it will save us from eternal death. Next it says "But prove yourselves doers of the word, not merely hearers who delude themselves." This means that when we read the word of God(Like through Verse-a-Day) or learn about it, we should not just listen to it and not pay any attention to it after we read it, but we should think about it and practice what we read. After that it says if we are hearers and not doers we delude ourselves. The definition of delude is to deceive yourself. Which would mean that we were deceiving ourselves when we do not do what the Bible says we should, or not pay attention to it. Which would definitely be true if we just read it and know what it says.
